FRANCIS Twin Runners Double Discharge

FRANCIS Turbine Twin Runners Double Discharge

FRANCIS Twin Runners or FRANCIS Double Discharge has several advantages. NORCAN experience shows that FRANCIS twin turbines have significant advantages over the conventional options of two horizontal FRANCIS turbines and generators or a single larger diameter vertical unit beyond the higher capital investment costs. FRANCIS Twin and FRANCIS Camelback were created over 100 years ago because they provided smaller diameters and were easier to manufacture, while their higher speed made generators more cost-effective. More relevant even by today’s standard, FRANCIS twin flexibility gives higher efficiency at partial loads. The advantage is significant for most brownfield projects to be modernized and some new greenfield projects. NORCAN has developed a unique know-how in FRANCIS Twin’s modernization with a similar approach to their FRANCIS Camelback. NORCAN’s new FRANCIS Twin runner’s modern hydraulic geometries are better adapted to the hydropower generating station parameters. As a result, they provide higher efficiencies across the operating load, increasing the kW’s power output an average of 14% to 20%.

NORCAN R&D in-house Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD, FEA, and FMEA engineers collaborate with one of Europe’s top turbine hydraulic fluid machinery dynamic laboratories supporting NORCAN in Austria. Numerical Simulation is successfully applied with CFD and FMEA from the laboratory research analysis on homologous runners on physical test rig experimental trials from our turbine hydraulic fluid lab cooperation in Austria for acceptance and approval. Test according to IEC 60193, ISO 9906, IEC 60534. Best quality made in Canada with core components sourced in Canada and the U.S.A.
