NORCAN successfully commissioned a new greenfield power plant with an interesting historic background replacing an old hydroelectric generating station was first built in 1896 with 2 x 75 kW. In 1898 the plant was upgraded with two additional Charles and BARBER Turbines totaling 425 kW (NORCAN is your total OEM, Repair and Modernization Center for BARBER Turbines). At that time, the plant was known as the Parry Sound’s first power plant. A new powerhouse was built in 1919 with 930 kW with an additional small unit of 420 kW. In 2017 the Cascade Street Generating Station was modernized with a significant expansion with NORCAN modern generating unit with Water to Wire. 1 x new NORCAN KAPLAN Axial Flow S-Type Ø 90.5-in (2300-mm) 240 RPM 3.2MW with NORCAN modern hydraulic geometries for more power output with significant sustainable annual energy production supporting climate resilience for decades of dependable operations. NORCAN scope of work included engineering, R&D, Design, Project Management, Manufacturing of the Turbine, supply of the Generator and W2W, Installation, and Commissioning.
