Job Description

Department:   Field & Shop

Location:         Carleton Place

Job Summary:

Under minimum supervision, performs the duties listed below with complete competence.

Typical Duties (including but not limited to):

  • Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures;
  • Maintain Inspection Records and complete inspection reports;
  • Ability to read and follow work procedures and DWI’s;
  • Ability to travel for an extended period of time.
  • Field Scope of Work:
    • Install, align, dismantle, and move stationary equipment according to layout plans using hand tools and power tools;
    • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes and jacks to position equipment during assembly, installation, set-up, and repairs;
    • Inspect and examine equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions;
    • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and programmable logic controls;
    • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts;
  • Shop Scope of Work:
    • Operate lathes, milling machines, and grinders;
    • Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes and jacks to position machinery during set-up and repairs;
    • Inspect and examine machinery to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions;
    • Adjust machinery and repair or replace defective parts;
    • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on machinery;
    • Construct foundations for machinery or direct others to construct foundations;
    • Assemble equipment before installation using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment;
  • Good knowledge of welding:
    • Mig;
    • Tig;
    • Stick;

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license;
  • Bilingual, English/French (Asset).

Required Working Knowledge:

  • Norcan’s current programs and services, proprietary systems, company policies, and goals
  • Operating welding equipment
  • Using Measuring equipment and Shop Safety
  • ISO Standards as they apply to Design and Manufacturing
  • Hoisting & Rigging, Lock Out, WHMIS, and other shop safety programs
  • First Aid
  • Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights

Relevant Experience Required:

  • 5 years relevant experience in the field or a related area

Education Required/Minimum Requirement:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program
  • Red Seal

Working Conditions:

  • Working in a shop, PPE required
  • May be required to travel out of the country for work
  • Lifting and transporting heavy equipment
